What is Body Dysmorphia?

The picture here describes it very precisely. Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) or Body Dysmorphia is a mental health condition in which a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These errors are often invisible to others. You may have BDD if you:

  • Worries a lot about a certain area of your body

  • Spends a lot of time comparing your appearance to others

  • Often look at yourself in the mirror or avoid mirrors altogether

  • Make a big effort to hide mistakes

Muscle Dysmorphia (MD) is a subtype of BDD. MD is characterized by a preoccupation with the idea that one's body is not muscular enough. People with MD perceive themselves as small and weak, even though they look normal or muscular.
